These challenges are designed to be a connect your creativity with digital and creative tech skills.
CHALLENGE ONE
Design your own Games Character
This is a writing + illustration challenge
Team or Individual CHALLENGE
Writing and illustrating are both core to game development, being able to describe new characters, their powers, to create new worlds and draw/illustrate them are basic building blocks which can be strengthened over time.
What you need to submit
This is a writing + illustration challenge. You will need 2 pages.
What to include:
- Page 1: Draw what your character looks like
- Page 2: Write a short story about your character
Let’s help you work out some facts for your story:
- What type of game or world are they in?
- What does your character do in the game?
- Do they have special powers or features?
- What is their name?

CHALLENGE TWO
Shoutcaster Challenge
This is a audio or video recording challenge
Team or Individual CHALLENGE
Shoutcasters are the voices of esports, commentating on tournament games at real-world events and online. Just like traditional sports commentating, your role is to inform and to entertain without getting in the way of the action.
What you need to submit
This challenge requires audio/video of you shoutcasting a game. You will need to record a 30sec clip and send the finished product.
Audio or video record a 30sec clip of you commentating someone playing a video game.
Tips:
- Practice by watching Twitch or YouTube gaming videos and commentate over the top.
- You should have good knowledge of the game you are commentating.
Record yourself using a phone or device and playback and listen to yourself. Get others to listen and give you feedback, practice lots.

CHALLENGE THREE
Photography Challenge
This is a photo challenge
Individual CHALLENGE
A picture tells a thousand words and understanding how to setup and create photos that have impact takes time and focus.
Storytelling is a key component of game development.
What you need to submit
Using a camera, phone or any device that can take photos, take a photo of something that is important to you or that represents you or your life. You are allowed to set the photo up and should pay attention to every part that can be seen.
Once the photo has been taken, send it through to us with a brief description of what the photo is meant to represent.
Things to consider:
- Photo Composition – What you can see in the photo, where things are placed and how they come together to make your picture
- Light – Is your photo well-lit or is it lit in the way that you want
- Story – What are you trying to capture and tell with this photo
- Post Processing – Once you have taken the photo are you going to change it at all?
We are looking for photos that tell a strong story so keep that in mind while planning and taking your photo.
